Jews protesting at a planned troop redeployment flocked to Hebron after a phone call by Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister, to Yasser Arafat failed to break the deadlock in talks on its future. Ultra-Orthodox Jews marched to the Tomb of the Patriarchs, sacred to Muslims and Jews. A seminarian said: "The people feel that this may be the last time they can visit Hebron."
