It was the third shutdown in four years for the underground weekly, which acts as a voice for the nation's poor.
Libete's street vendors have been subject to regular arrests and beatings. Telephoned death threats have increased since the assassination on 28 August of Father Jean-Marie Vincent, the Catholic priest who advocated political reform. Haiti's generals warned they would not tolerate media reports of 'subversive' messages.
