Extraordinary footage has emerged of a rescue helicopter in Norway balancing on a crash barrier at the scene of an accident.

The video shows the chopper gently maneuvering onto a crash barrier on the road  near the Storvasselva Hammar tunnel in Snillfjord on Tuesday.

The precarious position of the helicopter allowed a doctor on-board to safely leap out.

According to local press the van driver was eventually freed from his vehicle following the crash.

His condition is unknown.
