From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tourist Andrew Gray was attacked during a beach party on in the resort of Ayia Napa on Saturday evening.

The 35-year-old, from London, was at a Radio 1 beach party when he was knifed several times in the chest and abdomen during a scuffle.

A spokesman for Nicosia police said they had arrested two men and both had appeared before Larnaca district court, a town on the south of the island.

Jason Pinder, 29, and Cofi Achah, 21, both from London, were remanded in custody for eight days while police conduct their investigations.

Police caught up with the two men on Sunday night at Larnaca airport before they could catch a flight back to Britain, several days before the pair were due to fly home.

Police prosecutor Costas Panayiotou told the court that Mr Gray was still in a critical but stable condition at a local clinic.
