From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Emergency services say four people watching the high-speed drive were rushed to hospital when a rally car slammed sideways into them in Mallorca.
One of the spectators in the accident on Saturday has reportedly lost a foot, and another has serious injuries to their spinal cord.
Both were being taken care of at Palma's Son Espases hospital while two others, one with bone fractures in a leg, were taken to Palma's Juaneda Clinic.
The organisers, Rallysprint Aficio de Calvia, said on its Twitter account that it wished "those injured a speedy recovery."
They retweeted a message from a motorsports group which said on Monday morning: "We want to give our support to those affected by the RSAficio and their families, and lots of support to the driver and co-driver."
Before the race had taken place, the organisers had warned drivers and fans to be cautious. It is not the first incident of this kind to happen at Spain's car rallies.
In September last year, six people died instantly, including one pregnant woman and her partner, when a car flew off a bend at high speed and into the crowd. The organisers were a different group, called Escuderia La Coruna.
As in that case, a black bow is now displayed on the island's Mallorca Rallye website.
A safety officer had warned spectators to leave the corner where the accident happened but they returned once he had left, according to news agency Europa Press.
