The Swedish owner of a snowmobile who says his vehicle has never left the country has received a ticket for being illegally parked in the UK.

Krister Nylander, a mechanic from Bollstabruk, 200 miles north of the Swedish capital Stockholm, said he received the notice last Thursday from a London-based company for an alleged parking violation in Warwick. Mr Nylander, who lives on a farm, said he had never been to Warwick and neither had his snowmobile. "The snowmobile is parked in my barn," Mr Nylander said. "It has never left Sweden."

He said the ticket from Euro Parking Collection, which collects parking fines for foreign-registered vehicles, ordered him to pay 1,211 Swedish kronor (£90), claiming his snowmobile was parked illegally for three hours on 22 June. Mr Nylander said the information on the notice, such as the make of snowmobile and the licence plate, was correct but that he would not pay the fine.

Euro Parking Collection was unavailable for comment yesterday.
