Germany's biggest far-right party was barred from participation in an eastern state election and suffered the defection of a leading member who accused its leaders of condoning anti-foreigner violence, AP reports from Berlin.
The Republicans were refused space on the 26 June ballot for Saxon-Anhalt because they chose candidates during a secret and therefore undemocratic convention, the state electoral commission decided in Magdeburg.
