More than 100 supporters of the movement for an independent Sardinia broke into Silvio Berlusconi's villa on the island on Saturday, proclaiming that they were "reclaiming the sovereignty of our soil.

Villa Certosa, 2,600 square metres of luxury in 60 hectares of gardens, is the Italian Prime Minister's favourite holiday home, where he has hosted the Blairs, Vladimir Putin and other leaders. The protesters cut through bushes and scaled a low wall to get in. Police ejected them after half an hour.
