From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 19-year-old, from Nice, weighed the machine on scales provided in the store’s fruit and veg section.
He then stuck the resulting price sticker on the console and paid the amount stated - €9.24 (£8.10).
The PlayStation 4 generally retails at almost £300.
The youngster, named in the French media only as Adel, got away with the scam the first time around and it was only when he returned to the store, in the city of Montbeliard, to try it again that he was caught.
He was arrested by police and charged with theft, but did not appear in court for the hearing, reports L'est Republicain newspaper.
He told officers he had sold the first console to pay for a train ticket home.
He was sentenced to four months in prison.
Earlier this month in Alabama, the attempted theft of a playstation led to four people being arrested when the crime went wrong.
The quartet tried to steal the console from a man who advertised it social media – but when they grabbed the item and started to drive off, the seller kept hold of it and was dragged down the road.
