The Spanish Ministry of Defence identified the pilot as Captain Fernando Lluna Carrascosa, 30, of the Spanish air force.
The deadly crash took place at 14:00 local time at the Moron de la Frontera air base, which is used by both US and Spanish military, near Seville, Andalusia.
Captain Lluna Carrascosa, an experienced pilot with over 600 hours experience flying Eurofighter jets, leaves behind a wife and a young daughter.
The plane is reported to have lost altitude, smashing into the runway, following a routine morning exercise. It is understood the pilot did not make an emergency call before the fatal crash.
