At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Two Mexican-Americans were arrested in Tijuana early on Saturday in connection with the killings, the federal Attorney General's office said. Juan Enrique Bazones Hernandez, 18, and Roman Torres Mendez, 23, were identified as gunmen who participated in the shoot-out on 24 May that killed Cardinal Juan Jesus Posadas Ocampo. They worked for the rivals of the drug lord Joaquin Guzman, who police say was the intended target of the gunmen.
