Franco Reviglio, Italy's Finance Minister denied channelling vast sums from the state-owned Eni group to political parties, Patricia Clough reports from Rome.
Mr Cagliari allegedly admitted having 20bn lire (pounds 8.8m) passed from Eni's funds abroad to bank accounts of the Socialist and Christian Democrat parties. He said he inherited the practice.
