Fayed to sue France over Diana and Dodi crash probe

Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed is to sue the French Government over the investigation into the deaths of his son Dodi, Diana, Princess of Wales, and driver Henri Paul.
Mr Al Fayed has been granted leave by the Tribunal de Grand Instance de Paris to sue for an alleged failure by Judge Herve Stephan to fully investigate the invasion of privacy complaint he lodged against the paparazzi.
The French Government is liable for any failings by the presiding judge.
Diana, Princess of Wales, Dodi Al Fayed and Mr Paul were killed after a high-speed crash in a Paris underpass on August 31 1997. They had been chased by paparazzi and Mr Paul had been drinking.
Immediately after the crash Mr Al Fayed lodged an invasion of privacy criminal complaint against the paparazzi.
He now alleges alleges this line of investigation was not properly pursued and an order to the police to investigate the complaint was deliberately ignored.
After the ruling Mr Al Fayed said he had faith in the French judicial system and was certain that it will help discover the truth.
No date for his action to begin has yet been set.
