Eurostar services suspended for third day

The London-to-Brussels services of Channel Tunnel high-speed train company Eurostar was suspended for a third day today after the Belgian commuter rail disaster which has claimed at least 18 lives.

Monday's crash at Halle, near Brussels, was at the point where commuter and high-speed lines meet, preventing Eurostar and other train companies from being able to operate in the area.

Eurostar had to axe all of yesterday's trains to and from the Belgian capital.

Announcing that no London to Brussels services would operate today, the operator said passengers due to travel on this route were "strongly advised to postpone or cancel their journeys".

It added that passengers could exchange their tickets or get a refund.

The company has also had to reduce its services to Lille in northern France because of the Belgian crash.

Services between London and Paris/Disneyland Resort Paris are operating normally.
