Three people have been found dead in a German hotel room with crossbow bolts in their bodies.

Staff at the guest house in Passau discovered the two women aged 30 and 33 and a 53-year-old man on Saturday.

Two crossbows were also recovered from the scene.

Police launched an investigation into the deaths but said there were no indications that anyone else was involved.

They are now looking into the backgrounds of all three people in an attempt to establish what happened.

Detectives told local media the group booked a triple room for three days and confirmed the women were not the man’s daughters.

The 33-year-old woman and 53-year-old man, who are from the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, were found lying together in bed while the 30-year-old from Lower Saxony was found at the bottom of the room

“Three bodies were found on Saturday in a guest room,” the Bavarian police said in a statement.

“In the bodies of the dead were arrows, which are probably related to the found crossbows.

“On order of the public prosecutor’s office in Passau an autopsy of the corpses was ordered.

“These will be done at the beginning of the next week and should provide information on, among other things, the cause of death.”

The hotel is on the banks of the River Iltz on the outskirts of Passau near the Austrian border.
