Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chelsea Hyndman, 21, died on the Greek island on Monday after suffering ruptured internal organs which doctors said were caused by physical violence.
Luke Walker, 22, of Brierley Hill, West Midlands, appeared before a court in Heraklion, the island's largest city, where he was formally charged with murder.
His lawyer George Koundourakis said he hoped Walker would be granted bail before his trial.
He said: "He is in prison now but we are going to file an appeal for bail next week.
"It is too early to say when the trial will be."
It was originally thought Walker would face a lesser charge of causing fatal bodily injury.
Ms Hyndman's mother described her as "full of life" and a "perfect daughter".
Heather Hyndman issued a statement through police last night which said: "We are devastated by Chelsea's death - we cannot believe what has happened.
"The last time we saw her was when she set off for Greece with her friends embarking on a new adventure in her life.
"Chelsea was full of life, very outgoing and a perfect daughter. We have lost not just a daughter but a best friend."
Ms Hyndman was from Castleford, West Yorkshire, and a former pupil of Castleford High School.
Her mother said she left a younger sister, Mia, six, whom she treated like her own daughter.
Ms Hyndman died a day after she was admitted to hospital in Heraklion suffering from severe abdominal pain.
She was transferred to the Venizelio hospital where she underwent an emergency operation but died in the intensive care unit.
A tribute page set up on Facebook attracted more than 250 members.
Friends of Ms Hyndman said she was "one of the most awesome, kindest, fantastic girls you could ever meet".
Walker's brother Ryan wrote on his Facebook page: "Luv u Chelsea xxx."
It is understood Ms Hyndman and Walker were intending to spend the summer working on the island.
