From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

To make his escape, the 36-year-old broke the bars of his cell. He then climbed down the wall of the Pagliarelli facility using sheets that he had tied with knots, The Local reported from Il Fatto Quotidiano.
The man, originally from Albania, has a criminal recorded littered with offences including murder, burglary and extortion.
This was not the first time the man had successfully escaped from prison.
He was moved to Pagliarelli prison in March this year, after he broke out of a facility in Parma in February 2013, Rai News reported.
In February of this year, two inmates at a prison in Rome also used knotted sheets to escape from a prison in Rome.
Last week in the UK, a prisoner nicknamed the ‘Skull Cracker’, escaped from a prison in Kent after he absconded from day release.
55-year-old Michael Wheatley, who earned his name by viciously pistol-whipping his victims during bank and building society robberies, was caught on Wednesday.
He is charged with robbery of £18,350, possessing an imitation firearm and being unlawfully at large.
Redhill Magistrates remanded him in custody to appear at Guildford Crown Court on 29 May.
