a man known as the "cannibal killer" after he confessed to eating the flesh and drinking the blood of one of his victims was jailed for life yesterday for murdering two children.

Jan O, 26, whose last name was withheld in accordance with German privacy laws, was convicted in Goettingen state court for murdering a 14-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy in November.

Judge Ralf Guenther said the murders showed an "almost unimaginable dimension of criminality". His lawyer said he was considering an appeal.
