Dozens of people have been killed at Brussels Airport in two explosions and a further blast at the Maalbeek Metro station in the Beglian capital.

At least 30 people have been killed in blasts which exploded at the departures area of the airport and at the Metro station shortly afterwards.

The airport blasts struck just after 8am local time close to the American Airlines section of the airport.

Another explosion then hit Maalbeek Metro station, located near EU institutions, one hour later.

Isis has since claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Up to 35 people are believed to be injured, according to reports.

Brussels airport explosion

The events come four days after the long-pursued suspect in the November Paris attacks, Salah Abdeslam, was captured in the Belgian capital.

The cause of the explosions has not yet been confirmed.
