Koblenz - The German company UB Plasma, accused of selling blood products tainted with HIV virus, has been accused of using huge amounts of wine to lure the homeless to blood donation sessions.

A former laboratory assistant, Birgit Zimonyi, told a Koblenz court that Bernhard Bentzien and Ulrich Kleist, two executives of UB Plasma, had drunk with potential donors, and had ensured that 'tramps felt comfortable with us and came back often'. She said there was 'a veritable wine store' in the firm, which was shut down in October 1993. Reuter
