From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

US student Amanda Knox says a film documenting the murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher and the trial "is an invasion of my life".

Knox made the statement at a civil court hearing in Perugia, Italy, aimed at halting circulation of the film "Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy."

Knox's lawyer Carlo Dalla Vedova said today that the film has aired on the Lifetime television network despite his legal attempt to prevent it from being viewed.

He says the film is also available on Lifetime's website, and on video streaming sites.

Knox's lawyer says his client is being damaged, citing her ongoing appeal against her murder conviction.

The lawyer says the civil case was delayed until July 4 so Lifetime can respond to a summons to appear before the court.

Knox is serving 26 years after being found guilty of the murder and sexual assault of Meredith Kercher, 21, from Surrey, in what prosecutors claimed was a violent group sex game in the house the women shared in Perugia, in 2007.
