The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Zaid Bin Sultan al-Nahayan, has ordered that a wide range of crimes be tried in Islamic Sharia courts rather than in civil courts, Reuter reports from Abu Dhabi. Lawyers said that cases involving both Emirates nationals and foreigners specified in the decree comprised murder, manslaughter, theft, adultery, juvenile and drugs offences and crimes that cause injury. The lawyers said that the new decree would be applied in all the UAE's seven emirates.
