Web tycoon Mr Dotcom denied bail

Kim Dotcom, the founder of a file-sharing website Megaupload, was denied bail by a judge in New Zealand yesterday pending an extradition hearing to face charges of copyright infringement in the US.

Police in the Netherlands have arrested a fifth suspect in connection with the case, after another three were arrested last week in New Zealand.

The court in Auckland heard Mr Dotcom, 38, may try to flee before his extradition hearing on 22 February. He is accused of facilitating illegal downloads costing copyright holders at least $500m.
