From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A woman has described the moment she arrived home late at night to find the neighbour's dog riding her pony.

Callie Schenker said she noticed the corgi sitting on top of her horse, Cricket, as she pulled into her driveway in Missouri, Australia

In video footage she recorded, she approaches Cricket and makes a noise to call him over, only prompting the small horse to run off with the dog balanced on his back.

"I can't make this stuff up!" Ms Schenker, who can be heard laughing in the video, wrote on Facebook.

"So we pull back in our driveway tonight and this is what we see. This is not our dog! But apparently him and Cricket the one eyed wonder pony are best friends.

"I'm stealing the dog, new circus act!"

The dog, who belongs to her neighbours, apparently roams the local area.

Ms Schenker added: "The dog didn't get hurt! No the dog is not abused at his home, he just likes to travel the rural area we live.

"Cricket is fine, he lost his eye along time ago in an incident that had nothing to do with the dog! I did not put the dog on the pony! Honestly I was pulling in my drive way from going to Mcdonalds when I seen this happening."

The video proved highly popular on Facebook, where it had been viewed more than 5.7 million times at the time of writing.

Ms Schenker set up a Facebook page for Cricket and his friends.
