From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kenilworth Bakery, on Australia’s Sunshine Coast, launched the doughnut coffee cup to combine the sweet treat with a caffeine fix.
The confectionery, which costs AUS $8 (£4.50) is a cinnamon-coated doughnut which has been hollowed out, lined with nutella and filled with a shot of espresso topped with milk and foam.
Barista Fernando Santi is the mastermind behind the creation, bakery owner Jenna Sanders told the local Sunshine Coast Daily.
“Our new barista is out of this world,” she said.
“He had the idea and played around with it, using my baking skills.
“Being Brazilian, he knows so much about coffee. It took us about a week to perfect but they are amazing.”
There is also a version filled with hot chocolate for non-coffee drinkers.
Earlier this year, the Melbourne-based Truman Cafe posted a video of its “avocado latte” concoction on social media - which received a mixed reaction.
Some thought the “avolatte” - a latte served in a hollowed-out avocado - looked great, but many thought it was too “out there”.
The doughnut coffee cup, however, has unsurprisingly proved very popular with customers.
