Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Australian police have confirmed the identity of a body found in the bush to be that of missing British man, Aslan King.
The body was found in a creek just over a kilometre from where King was last seen, after an intense four-day search.
The 25-year-old had suffered what friends described as a possible seizure during a coastal camping trip.
Mr King, an illustrator who only relocated to Australia two weeks ago, is said to have hit his head on the ground before getting up quickly and rushing into thick bushland surrounding the campsite where he and four friends had been staying.
Australian police told the Herald Sun that his behaviour "took everyone by surprise", and made it harder to find him as there were no clues as to why he left the campsite or where he went.
Sergeant Danny Brown told The Age that it was not the result the family wanted, but they now had closure.
He said: "As parents, and I'm a parent, we all want to know where our kids are. At least Aslan's mother and father know exactly where he is and we can send him home."
Authorities conducted a large scale search for the missing man from Brighton using a helicopter, boats and mounted police.
The campsite King was last seen at is located near the town of Princetown on the Victoria coast, close to the popular tourist site known as the Twelve Apostles.
