Three British men have gone on trial in Singapore for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman while visiting the country for a stag party.

The men are accused of “taking turns” to rape the woman in a hotel room after partying at a dance music festival on 10 September last year, according to The Straits Times.

Khong Tam Thanh, 22, Le Michael, 24, and Vu Thai Son, 24, face a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and a whipping if found guilty.

The Singapore High Court heard how the friends met the Malaysian woman in Zouk nightclub and she agreed to go back to the hotel with one of the group’s friends, another British man called Richard Ahn, at around 2.30am.

The pair had consensual sex, the court heard, but some hours later Ahn allegedly allowed Khong to enter the room, where he is accused of raping the woman as she lay unconscious.

Deputy Public Prosecutor G. Kannan said Vu entered the room “like clockwork” after Khong left and also raped the woman.

Le then came into the room “within the minute” of Vu leaving, Mr Kannan told the court.

Ahn was also facing investigation by police but he left the country illegally before investigations were completed, according to local media.

Rape is punishable by up to 20 years prison time in Singapore, and perpetrators can also face corporal punishment such as whipping or caning.

The trial continues.
