Your support makes all the difference.A British man who has been arrested on suspicion of murdering two women after the victims’ bodies were found in his Hong Kong apartment has been named as Rurik Jutting.
The 29-year-old was detained when he requested police assistance at his residence in the upmarket Wan Chai area at 3.42am on Saturday.
Police said one victim, who was certified dead at the scene, had sustained cuts to her neck and buttock; while another body, with neck injuries, was found decomposing in a suitcase on the balcony.
It has been reported locally that the women were sex workers, aged 25 and 30, from Indonesia and the Philippines respectively.
While searching the property police seized a knife and reportedly found small amounts of cocaine.
The South China Morning Post reported that the Cambridge graduate was working for Bank of America Merill Lynch, in the former British colony, but had recently resigned his post.
In a statement, Hong Kong Police said: "Police arrested the 29-year-old man at the scene for murder. He is being detained for enquiries.
"Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the causes of death of the deceased."
Wan Siu-hung, the Wan Chai assistant district commander for crime, told the South Morning China Post that police believed the body had been in the suitcase for three to four days, and added: “We believe the body had been dead for quite some time.”
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a British national has been arrested in Hong Kong.
"We are in touch with the local police and stand ready to provide consular assistance."
