A Wild West gun battle re-enactor who fired live rounds instead of blanks during a show and wounded three onlookers has pleaded not guilty to illegally possessing a firearm.

Paul Doering has not been charged with shooting the three tourists during the 17 June show in Hill City, South Dakota.

Prosecutors have not said why they did not press more charges against him but an official said the shootings were apparently accidental.

Mr Doering told media that the guns he used were borrowed and that he thought they contained blanks.
