While most of New York’s residents are tucked up warm and dry inside, these red pandas are making the most of the sub-zero conditions hitting the North East of America.
The cute little critters were spotted on Tuesday frolicking in the snow at Trevor Zoo at Millbrook School in New York. They left their enclosure together and ventured out into the heavy snow drift blanketing their surrounding habitat while flakes continued to fall around them.
However, the red panda is no stranger to freezing temperatures - they are native to the cool bamboo forests of China and the foothills of the Himalayas.
The species, also known as “lesser panda” and “red cat-bears”, is on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s endangered list and it is feared that there are less than 10,000 in the world.
The snow fall is part of Winter Storm Juno, which has brought New York and its neighbouring states to a grinding halt. People have been left stuck in their homes while 6,500 flights along the East Coast have been cancelled.
Although Winter Storm Juno brought with it blizzards and snow, it was downgraded in severity when the potentially "life-threatening" blizzard failed to make an appearance.
