Your support makes all the difference.A man has been hailed as a hero after surveillance video captured him running to rescue a baby in a stroller that was rolling toward a busy roadway.
Ron Nessman likely saved the child’s life on Monday in Hesperia city of California when a woman who was standing near her vehicle fell down and lost her grip on the stroller.
Video footage, which has more than 49 million views, showed the woman struggling to get up after tripping and hurting her knee as the pram rolled down the highway.
Mr Nessman was then seen running towards the stroller and catching it seconds before it hit the busy driveway. The video went viral and the post which was first shared by the Twitter handle @USSGoodGirl quickly garnered more than 49 million views.
The good samartian was later identified as Nessman by NBCLA, revealing he had been in a job interview at a nearby Applebee’s restaurant before the stroller incident.
He said he’d been experiencing homelessness after struggling with grief following the unexpected death of his girlfriend, and was hoping to turn things around with a job washing dishes.
He’d left the interview and gone to sit on a bench when he saw the stroller start to drift.
“I said, you know, ‘I got it!’” Mr Nessman recalled. “Because I felt so bad for the lady. I got nephews and nieces. I can imagine something like that [happening].”
He said the great-aunt of the baby suffered injuries to her knees and was bleeding.
“She tried everything she possibly could to get up. Her knees were bleeding when I got up to her. She was still shocked and she was crying,” he said.
Mr Nessman’s sister Donna Gunderson who witnessed the whole ordeal from a nearby patio said it caught her attention when she heard the screams for help.
She said the stroller was heading directly toward Bear Valley Road as it was being pushed by strong winds blowing through the high desert.
“And I look back and I see a stroller going down the driveway and my heart dropped,” she said.
Soon after his heroic save, Mr Nessman was hired by the Applebee’s. He’s also received other job offers in the wake of the video going viral.
“I’ll earn everything I get so – with that in mind, you know – I appreciate the opportunity that Applebee’s has given me,” Mr Nessman said. “It’s really cool.”
