At least 20 people have died and more than 100 injured after a gunman opened fire on crowds at an outdoor music festival near the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino on the Nevada city’s famous gaming strip.
Dan Bilzeran, a playboy who has 22 million followers on Instagram, shared a video of himself on Snapchat running to safety with what sounds like gunfire exploding in the background.
"Holy f***, this girl just got shot in the f***ing head. So f***ing crazy,” the 36-year-old can be heard saying.
The millionaire, who is a Trump supporter, continued: "This is so f****** crazy. I had to go grab a gun, I'm f***** heading back.”
"It's so crazy, some kind of mass shooting. Guy had a heavy calibre weapon for sure. Saw some girl get shot in the face right next to me, her brains f****** hanging out."
Police shot dead the attacker, described as a "lone wolf", on the hotel's 32nd floor. Footage shared on social media appeared to show people escaping machine gun fire at Route 91 Harvest country music festival.
Two festival-goers said they initially heard a noise "like firecrackers" but it became clear a shooter, who discharged hundreds of bullets using an automatic weapon, was unloading "clip after clip" into the crowd. While one man claimed there were "multiple shooters" involved police later ruled this out.
Others reported seeing muzzle flashes from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across Las Vegas Boulevard towards festival.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department wrote on Twitter: "Confirming that one suspect is down. This is an active investigation. Again, please do not head down to the Strip at this time."
They later added: "At this time we do not believe there are any more shooters."
Las Vegas police told people to avoid the area and have cordoned off several roads. The department urged people to not to "live stream or share tactical positions of our officers on scene."
It added: "This may put emergency responders in danger”.
Witnesses said country singer Jason Aldean was playing near the end of the festival when gunfire rang out.
