Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Watch as Robert F Kennedy Jr announces his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States during a rally in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday 19 April.

It was reported a number of weeks ago that Mr Kennedy had filed to run for president in 2024 as a Democrat.

“If it looks like I can raise the money and mobilize enough people to win, I’ll jump in the race,” Mr Kennedy Jr tweeted last month.

“If I run, my top priority will be to end the corrupt merger between state and corporate power that has ruined our economy, shattered the middle class, polluted our landscapes and waters, poisoned our children, and robbed us of our values and freedoms. Together we can restore America’s democracy.”

Mr Kennedy, a nephew of President John F Kennedy and the son of his slain brother Robert F Kennedy, was once known most as an environmental lawyer who worked on issues such as clean water.

But over the past nearly two decades, he's become one of the leading voices of the anti-vaccine movement.

His work has been described by members of his own family and public health experts as misleading and dangerous.
