Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson has accused the Democrats of championing uniformity, comparing life under a potential Biden presidency to drinking Starbucks every day.

The controversial pundit made the remark during a rant against the Democratic presidential candidate at the start of his Friday evening show.

After saying that Donald Trump and senator Bernie Sanders were both anti-establishment figures, Mr Carlson contrasted them with Joe Biden and his staff, alleging that they stand for “corporate values” and do not believe in dissent.

“These people seek absolute sameness, total uniformity,” Mr Carlson claimed.

“You’re happy with your corner coffee shop. They want to make you drink Starbucks every day from now until forever. No matter how it tastes. That’s the future they promise: everyone doing the same thing,” he added.

In the same tirade, the anchor also accused those close to Mr Biden of not being liberal, suggesting they do not espouse “universal principles fairly applied”. However, to Mr Carlson’s mind, “most” of the 70 million people who voted for the incumbent president fitted this description.

The Fox News journalist is known for his angry monologues, including one he made in August against Michelle Obama, following the former First Lady’s speech at the Democratic National Convention.

In a rant described by one former Republican as “unhinged”, Mr Carlson attacked Ms Obama for allegedly having “dominion” over the Democrats, comparing her to a cult leader.

As well for his personal attacks, the TV host has been strongly criticised in the past for comments he has made about women, race and immigration.

His latest remarks came on the same evening that Mr Biden delivered a televised address in Wilmington, Delaware, in which he called for unity.

"The purpose of our politics, the work of the nation, isn’t to fan the flames of conflict, but to solve problems, to guarantee justice, to give everybody a fair shot, to improve the lives of our people,” Mr Biden said.

The former vice president also expressed confidence that he would win the election, after his lead over Mr Trump widened in four of the five states where counting has yet to finish.
