Donald Trump called former President Barack Obama “sad” for hosting the White House Hanukkah party early. But he just did the same thing.

Mr Trump held the event on Thursday - five days before Hanukkah begins - reminding several about how he criticised Mr Obama in 2011 for a similar move, suggesting the then-President didn't want the party to conflict with his family’s Christmas vacation.

“Why was the Hanukah celebration held in the White House two weeks early? @BarackObama wants to vacation in Hawaii in late December. Sad,” Mr Trump tweeted at the time.

Twitter users have been quick to call out Mr Trump for being seemingly hypocritical.

“Tonight, Trump is hosting the White House Hanukkah party. Hanukkah is next week. In an early holiday miracle, this Trump tweet lasted for six years and came back to burn him,” one person tweeted.

Another person wrote: “You can’t make this stuff up: Trump held Hanukkah celebration tonight, five days early, ahead of his Mar-a-Lago getaway.”

On Friday, Mr Trump is heading to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida before travelling on Saturday morning to open Mississippi’s new civil rights museum and the Museum of Mississippi History.

He is then expected to spend the rest of the weekend at Mar-a-Lago and head back to Washington on Sunday.

The President has called the property his “winter White House,” since he spends many weekends there in the colder months.

This year, Hanukkah starts on Tuesday, 12 December. Mr Trump’s schedule for that day is still unknown.
