Footage of Donald Trump's bad hair day goes viral

The wind picks up as the President makes his way across the tarmac at Andrews Air Force Base, heading for the steps of Air Force One which will bear him to Mar-a-Lago.

There are a couple of handshakes, a quick salute, and then he reaches for the right bannister and starts upwards. Too late. About half way up the steps, the wind made a grab for the presidential mane, blasting that famous yellow hair right, left and centre. But mostly right and left.

It may be childish to laugh at video showing a 71-year-old man having a terrible hair day. And yet plenty of people have been doing just that, after footage showing the President heading to Florida last week, went viral.

Commentators pointed out that Mr Trump frequently wears a red baseball cap bearing the words Make America Great Again when he ascends the steps of the presidential plane. On this occasion last Friday, for whatever reason, he did not have one.

Mr Trump’s hair has long been a source of fascination for a certain political obsessives. During the election campaign, in an attempt to convince people it was all real and not a wig, he on several occasions asked members of the crowd to take hold and pull it.

Michael Wolff’s controversial book, Fire and Fury: Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, claims Mr Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, is among those who have been critical of the way he styles it.

She is said to have “often described the mechanics behind it to friends”, Mr Wolff wrote.

“An absolutely clean pate – a contained island after scalp reduction surgery – surrounded by a furry circle of hair around the sides and front, from which all ends are drawn up to meet in the centre then swept back and secured by a stiffening spray,” it quotes her as saying.

Last year, Harold Bornstein, who is said to have been Mr Trump’s long-term doctor for many years, told the New York Times the real estate magnate used a prostate-related drug to promote hair growth.

Earlier this year, Ronny Jackson, an US admiral and physician who documented Mr Trump’s annual medical, reported hat the President was was taking Propecia, a medicine to prevent baldness.

While plenty of people have been sniggering at the footage, at the time the wind was blowing, Mr Trump did not appear terribly concerned about what was happening to his hair. Once he reached the top of the steps, he turned around, waved, and then headed inside his plane.
