The TV journalist criticised the White House press secretary and said she was not able to “acknowledge reality” during an appearance on his network,
Ms McEnany has been Mr Trump’s top spokesperson since April 2020 and is a former paid political commentator for CNN.
“Well there are some people who are so mendacious that I just wouldn’t put them on air,” Tapper told host Brian Stelter when asked about the value of having White House staff on shows.
“Kayleigh McEnany, I never booked her. Jason Miller, from the Trump campaign, I would never book him.
“I mean, these are just people who just tell lies the way most people breathe, there is no value in that.”
Tapper said that he viewed Kellyanne Conway “as more of a filibusterer and subject changer than a liar.”
“There is a big difference with someone like Kayleigh McEnany, who just like, this is what she does,” added Tapper.
“She tells lies, all the time, she cannot acknowledge reality and I am not going to put someone like that on air.”
Ms McEnany was quick to take to Twitter to defend herself and attack Mr Tapper.
“This is a therapy session for a broken network, and @jaketapper is lazy enough to participate by lobbing baseless personal attacks, with ZERO evidence,” she tweeted.
“Jake’s real problem: I do not leak. I do not lie. But I DO call out the lies of the media (i.e. CNN Russia collusion hoax!)”
