Just as Mr Trump was delivering his first State of the Union speech, and shortly before the porn star was to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live - apparently to discuss an alleged 2006 relationship with the man who now works in the Oval Office - the 38-year-old issued a statement denying the affair.
“Over the past few weeks I’ve been asked countless times to comment on reports of an alleged sexual relationship wit Donald Trump many, many, many years ago,” she said in a statement.
“The fact of the matter is that each party to this alleged affair denied its existence in 2006, 2011, 2017 and again in 2018. I am not denying this affair because I was paid “hush money” as has been reported in overseas-owned tabloids. I am denying this affair because it never happened.”
Earlier this month, Wall Street Journal reported that Mr Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, had arranged a $130,000 payment to Ms Daniels to keep her quiet about the affair during the 2016 election. Mr Cohen has denied any payoff occurred, as has Ms Daniels.
Yet in an 2011 interview that was not published until recently, told In Touch magazine that she had an affair with Mr Trump in 2006, shortly after he married Melania Trump, the First Lady who is said to have been furious when the issue emerged his month.
It was after the JournalJreport emerged that Mr Kimmel announced he was booking her for his show and that she would appear shortly after Mr Trump finished speaking.
“I have MANY QUESTIONS! #MAGA” Mr Kimmel tweeted, using the acronym for Mr Trump’s campaign slogan.
