From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The message could not have been clearer.

Several hundred anti-Donald Trump demonstrators came together to spell the word “Resist!” at a California golf course owned by the president.

Reports said around 200 members of a group calling itself Indivisible San Pedro, created the flash mob protest. They also made sure someone was in a good location to photograph their work, and post it on social media.

A member of the group told CBS, the protest was held to draw attention to a call for a special prosecutor to investigate alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, following the firing of FBI Director James Comey,

A Facebook Group for the organisation described the people involved as “a group of concerned citizens that realise the Trump administration’s agenda will take America backwards, and must be stopped”.

The group, which has also called for Mr Trump to release his tax returns, made its protest at the Trump National Golf Club, at Rancho Palos Verdes near Los Angeles, on Saturday morning.

It took the flash mob, which also consisted of children, about 15 minutes to form the word, after which they sang "God Bless America", according to the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s too hard to spell out ‘Release your taxes’,” Peter Warren, a retired journalist and member of the group, told the newspaper. “It was just a way to express our love for the country.”

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were reportedly called to the scene and even watched from clubhouse balcony. However, they took the decision not to not intervene or arrest anyone.
