From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Kellyanne Conway has given a bizarre interview in which she held up sheets of paper with rhyming words printed on them.

Donald Trump's adviser appeared on Fox News' Hannity programme to defend the President's son, Donald Jr, following revelations he had met with a Russian lawyer who had allegedly claimed to have damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

In a scene reminiscent of romcom Love Actually, or right-wing former TV host Glenn Beck's chalkboard rants, Ms Conway used the paper to deny there had been "collusion" by Mr Trump's presidential campaign and the Kremlin.

Mr Trump Jr had appeared on Sean Hannity's programme previously to defend his decision to meet with Natalia Veselnitskaya during the campaign.

He described the encounter as a "wasted 20 minutes".

Ms Conway said in her interview: "So I just want to review, in case you run out of time, this is how I see it so far. This is to help all the people at home. What's the conclusion? Collusion? No."

Crossing out the word "collusion" with a red pen and bringing up a separate piece of paper, she continued: "We don't have that yet. I see illusion and delusion."

She added, to laughter from Mr Hannity, a Trump supporter: "So just so we're clear everyone, four words. Conclusion, collusion, no. Illusion, delusion, yes.

"I just thought we would have some fun with words. Sesame's Grover word of the day perhaps Sean, because you're absolutely right.

"To date, you know, they basically set out this Venus flytrap and thought, 'One day we'll catch something eight months later'.

"And yet, we really appreciate the fact that—we being the American people, I have to say—appreciate the fact that Don Jr released those emails, appeared on your show for all to see.

"You know, compare that to the hiding and the furtiveness that we saw all during the last campaign by the other side."
