From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Fox News host Jeanine Pirro suggested Wednesday night that "something" was going to happen to presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden that would keep him from appearing on the ballot come November.
Her comment during an appearance on "The Five" as she was answering a question about a recent poll from right-wing outlet Rasmussen that claimed more than half of its respondents didn't believe Mr Biden would survive his first term in office.
"For some reason, I just have this feeling that Joe Biden isn't going to be on the ticket," Ms Pirro said. "I have a sense that something's going to happen before the election, and he's not even going to be on the ticket, so don't even ask me if he's going to make the four years."
Other pundits on "The Five" gently pushed back on Ms Pirro's theory.
Dana Perino, former White House press secretary, can be heard sighing "oh man" as Ms Pirro concludes her theory.
Jesse Watters, the moderator of the discussion, quickly jumped in to qualify Ms Pirro's statements.
"We certainly don't hope that anything happens to Vice President Joe Biden anytime soon," he said.
"So, he is going to be the nominee," Bret Baier, another pundit on the program said. "The bumper stickers are already printed. It's Biden-Harris, and he's going to be the nominee as of next week."
After the pushback, Ms Pirro began to walk back her insinuation, assuring the others on the program that she wasn't alluding to Mr Biden's death or incapacitation, but rather to the machinations of the Democratic Party.
"Look, I wish him all good health, that's not what I'm talking about," Ms Pirro said. "But things are so crazy right now. I don't know what's happening in the Democrat Party, and that's all I'm saying. I mean I hope he lives forever, that's not my point. And I know he's got the numbers."
