Donald Trump’s children have recently taken a more active role in his presidential campaign, appearing at rallies, introducing their father to the stage and asking the public to donate funds.

Eric Trump, 32, has asked his father's supporters in an email to raise $10 million for his campaign - on top of the $11 million he claimed his father has already received after he sent out his first fundraising email last week.

“Anyone who knows me knows exactly what I think about Donald J. Trump,” wrote his second son. ”He is an amazing man – there is nobody I admire more. I consider him my best friend, and could not be more proud that he is my father.”

The junior Trump told his father’s followers that the goal is to raise $10 million before Thursday at midnight, in time for the Federal Election Commission’s second quarter fundraising deadline.

Several media outlets quoted experts who questioned whether Mr Trump’s email-led fundraising figures were accurate.

They also referenced the Republican’s claims that he had donated millions to veterans charities but then took six months to reveal where that money had gone.

“The truth is we did better than $11 million and no amount of spin from Crooked Hillary's machine can change that fact,” wrote his son in an email on 27 June.

Mr Trump has always branded himself as an anti-establishment figure and claims he has self-funded his campaign.

CBS reported that his rival Hillary Clinton and her super PAC, Priorities USA, had a combined $94 million at the beginning of June, whereas Mr Trump had just $1.3 million.

His campaign received $3 million in May, compared to $26 million for Ms Clinton.

The fundraising appeal comes one week after his father very publicly fired his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski. According to several reports, his daughter Ivanka Trump encouraged the move.

Eric Trump was accompanied by his father and sister on a trip to Scotland last week to open the Trump Turnery Golf Resort.

He defended the move as a “family trip” and said his father's support at the golf course was no different to him supporting his father at a rally, he said on Fox News.

The 32-year-old was sent a suspicious package of white powder to his Manhattan home in March, along with a note which threatened that he and his siblings would be hurt if his father did not withdraw from the race.
