From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Carly Fiorina has endorsed Ted Cruz for US president.
“I checked the box for Ted Cruz and I am here to tell you why,” Fiorina, the former Republican candidate, told Cruz supporters Wednesday during a campaign stop in Miami.
The announcement comes days before the Florida primary where 99 delegates are up for grabs in the winner-takes-all state.
Fiorina, the former Hewlett Packard CEO, hit out against front-runners Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton by claiming that they are “two sides of the same coin” because they will not challenge America's status quo because they benefit from the current establishment.
“They’re not going to reform the system they are the system,” Fiorina said during her speech.
Shortly after the endorsement, Cruz said his campaign has become stronger after the endorsement.
"Carly Fiorina is a strong, principled leader and woman of faith. Our campaign is stronger with her leadership and her voice. Her story embodies the promise that in America anyone can start as a secretary and become a Fortune 50 CEO," Cruz said in a statement.
“Carly speaks the truth with courage, doesn’t back down to the Washington powerbrokers, and terrifies Hillary and the Democrats. We are blessed to have her support, and together I am confident we will continue to unite conservatives so that every American has the opportunity to achieve the unimaginable.”
While the announcement may not impact the success of Trump's campaign, it does reminds folks of the way he treated her back in September.
“Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?” Trump then told Rolling Stone. “I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”
