From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The far-right media website Breitbart is selling "precious Snowflake" ornaments to troll liberals at Christmas.

"It was a very, very rough year for snowflakes, and at Breitbart we are sensitive to their collective plight," the organisation says on its website, which Donald Trump's ex-chief strategist Steve Bannon has called "a platform for the alt-right".

It continues: "To that end we are offering this sturdy Snowflake Tree Ornament that will remind them (even in the darkest times) that they are PRECIOUS. Crafted with love in the USA, these snowflakes will NOT melt, even if the recipients do."

The website notes that the small ornaments are "Made of silver steel in the USA". They can be purchased for $5.99, excluding tax and the cost of shipping.

After leaving the White House earlier this year, Mr Bannon returned to his perch at Breitbart. He serves as the outlet's executive chairman.

The outlet's staff also includes Sebastian Gorka, who served as a special assistant to Mr Trump until the end of August.

Mr Bannon has been credited with catapulting Mr Trump into the presidency - a claim that Mr Trump has rejected.
