From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says there are “so many” reasons to impeach Donald Trump, and that she supports the idea of doing so.
“I think you could reach in a bag and pull so many things out that are impeachable of this president. I support impeaching this president,” the freshman congresswoman said on Sunday in an interview with Yahoo News.
Ms Ocasio-Cortez continued to say that she is likely going to sign on to a resolution introduced by Representative Rashida Tlaib calling for an investigation into whether the president had committed an impeachable offence.
She had previously been non-committal on the issue.
“We hadn’t signed on when it was first introduced, but we probably will,” Ms Ocasio-Cortez said. “Well take a look into it.”
Ms Ocasio-Cortez has recognised previously that impeaching the president is unlikely, since the measure would almost surely be knocked down by Republicans who control the Senate.
But Ms Ocasio-Cortez has not hid her contempt for Mr Trump, either, and has frequently been the target of his allies’ derision on Twitter and on Fox News.
