US man expected to survive after being shot 14 times

An Ohio man who was shot 14 times is expected to survive, police have said.

The 35-year-old victim was rushed to hospital after he was riddled with bullets in the arms, legs and genitals at about 11.30pm on Wednesday night, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

The man’s girlfriend drove him to Christ Hospital after the attack in the 1600 block of Hamer Street, in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine (OTR) neighbourhood.

He was then transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Centre, where he was said to be in a critical condition but expected to survive.

A 32-year-old man was arrested a few hours later and charged with felonious assault.

The motive of the attack was not clear.

The suspect was expected to appear in court for the first time on Thursday.

A number of well-known individuals have survived gunshot wounds in the past.

In 2000, US rapper 50 Cent was shot at close range in New York’s South Jamaica neighbourhood. He was reportedly struck by nine bullets.

And in 1981 Pope John Paul was hit four times in an attempted assassination by Turkish sniper Mehmet Ali Agca at St Peter’s Square in Vatican City.
