From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Donald Trump on Thursday claimed Democratic nominee Joe Biden would either die or be overthrown by “communist” forces in his own party early in his term if he is elected in November.

“Joe’s not lasting two months as president,” the sitting commander in chief told Fox Business during another wild morning telephone interview.

The remark came after he was asked to critique Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ Wednesday night debate performance and he called her “a communist.”

"She's a communist," Mr Trump told the network’s morning host, Maria Bartiromo, of Ms Harris.

For months, he has contended Ms Harris is aligned with the progressive wing of her party, and envisions a Biden-Harris administration actually a “Harris administration,” as she said in a slip that she immediately corrected recently.

But then the president made his allegation that Mr Biden, one way or another, would be out after just two months as the 46th commander in chief.

“Biden won't make it two months as president,” he said.

For his part, Mr Biden last month chuckled when he mocked Mr Trump’s physical appearance and ability to move around.

“Thank God I am in good health,” Mr Biden told CNN, though he acknowledged “anything can happen.”

But in a shot at the heavier president, he said: “Just look at us. … Who seems to be in shape? Who seems to be able to move around.”
