The 52-year-old man was attempting to remove the campaign sign in Commerce Township, a suburb of Detroit 13 miles from the city center.
The sign was too close to the road, breaking a rule that states they must be placed 33 feet away.
When he went to pull the sign up, he slashed open his hand on razorblades that had been fixed to the bottom.
“He pulled over, reached down to grab it," said Dave Scott, Commerce Township supervisor.
"He actually thought it was electrified. He jumped and let go of it, looked at his hand and realized he was bleeding aggressively.”
Scott said the worker drove himself to the hospital for medical attention.
“Very angry. Very upset," he said.
"Why would someone set a boobytrap sign to harm someone? A child could have picked it up.”
The homeowner said that she has had several of her Trump campaign signs stolen, including a large banner.
She said she told Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies that the signs also disappeared recently but were returned, and she knew nothing about the razorblades.
“I think that is absolutely terrible. It’s really too bad that someone would go to that length to protect a political sign,” said one neighbor, Julee Henry.
She told Local 4: “I’m actually really surprised because I would think that that is what a democracy is all about. Everybody has their own opinions and their own thoughts on which way they’d want to vote.”
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.

An Orlando homeowner also rigged their Trump sign with electricity in the last election to shock any would-be thieves.
