California Senator Kamala Harris, who has announced she will run for the US presidency in 2020, had a recent memorable exchange on the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh last year.

Harris questioned Kavanaugh about whether he discussed the Mueller investigation with any employees at Kasowitz Benson Torres law firm. The same law firm founded by Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Marc Kasowitz.

The connection between Kavanaugh and Kasowitz would have established a link between the Supreme Justice nominee and Trump’s administration, rendering a potential conflict of interest within the Russia probe.

The exchange is tense as Senator Harris rephrases the question multiple times. Kavanaugh avoids answering the question each time.

“My question is: Have you had a conversation with anyone at that firm about that investigation? It’s a really specific question,” Harris asks.

Kavanaugh side-steps the direct question, “I would like to know the person you're thinking of.”

“I think you're thinking of someone and you don't want to tell us”, Senator Harris responds.
