Trump was left blushing in his Townhall interview when a questioner unexpectedly flirted with him, complimenting him on being “so handsome” and having a “great smile”.
During the question and answer session of the town hall event in Miami on Thursday night, the moderator introduced registered Republican Paulette Dale, described as voting for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and leaning slightly towards favouring Mr Trump’s election competitor Joe Biden for this year’s vote.
But when she started speaking, Ms Dale appeared quite smitten with the president, telling Mr Trump: “Good evening Mr President. I have to say you have a great smile.”
A grinning Mr Trump replied simply: “Gotcha, thank you. But Ms Dale did not let up, adding: “Okay, so… you’re so handsome when you smile."
In an abrupt shift in tone, Ms Dale then quizzed Mr Trump about immigration policies for “Dreamers”, children born in the US to parents who entered the country illegally. Mr Trump said only that he was going to “take care” of dreamers, before hailing his efforts in building 400 miles of wall along the US’s southern border with Mexico.
He added: “We want people to come into their country, but they have to come in legally. You will feel very happy over the course of the next year.”
Thursday’s town hall in Miami saw Mr Trump take questions from voters as well as the moderator, NBC host Savannah Guthrie. In heated early exchanges, he refused to give details of his coronavirus illness after-effects and to say when was the last time he tested positive for coronavirus, or to discuss his taxes.
While Mr Trump was at the Miami event on NBC, Mr Biden was doing his own town hall at the same time on rival network ABC News.
Mr Trump and Mr Biden are due to meet face to face again in Nashville on 22 October for one last debate before the 3 November election.
